The summer heat waves and the lack of rain have advanced this year’s harvest like we have never experienced before. It has been a generic situation, common conversation between farmers, winemakers and friends in the sector.

At Mas Vicenç we started the harvest with muscat on Thursday 18th August and two months later we were filtering the first young wines! when we usually still have some thick-skinned varieties waiting to be harvested.

The conclusion we draw from the campaign is generally good as the health of the grapes has been extraordinary and the reduction in quantity has not been as noticeable as we feared. We are confident that the wines with the 2022 vintage will have a very good acceptance in the market over time and we are happy.

However, we sense airs of concern towards a climate trend that distorts the cycles of the vineyard and we will have to get used to it and adapt.

We celebrate life

This past 3rd of July we organized at Mas Vicenç a solidary event called ‘our vineyards, your garden’. The initiative is shared with other wineries of the DO Tarragona to enjoy again unique moments of wine tourism after the long and hard confinement that we have had to live and also to collaborate with the #joemcorono foundation that fights against the existence of the coronavirus.

The experience at Mas Vicenç was based on a walk through the vineyards and afterwards a dinner in the cellar square with oriental cuisine, the wines of the winery and saxophone melodies.

It was the comeback of the smiles!

In the bubbles

This year we are entering into the bubble world due to the research of the ancestral method. According to the evolution and acceptance that they have during this first year, we will officially launch a new range of sparkling wines of Mas Vicenç.

At the moment, they can only be tasted and purchased at the physical store of the winery. But many will ask, what is an ancestral wine? It is a wine bottled during the last phase of the first fermentation to produce a sparkling wine with a fine bubble and the primary aromas of the grape variety.

So, to sum up, we’re in a bubble!

El Terrat and Arlequí receive the awards as the best wines of the DO Tarragona 2019

The XXV Wine Awards Ceremony of the Denomination of Origin Tarragona awarded Mas Vicenç with two first prizes with the wines El Terrat 2018 and Arlequí 2016. A blind tasting panel of 25 professionals tasted more than one hundred wines divided into 10 different categories with the aim of rewarding those that offer more quality and Mas Vicenç was one of the most awarded wineries with two first prizes in the categories of ‘Aromatic white wines’ and ‘Oak aged red wines’.

This recognition reaffirms the value of the wines of Mas Vicenç and encourages us to continue working to offer wines of high quality and with good acceptation in the market.

Welcome harvest

Muscat of Frontignan – Chardonnay – Garnacha – Macabeo – Malvasia – Tempranillo – Syrah – Merlot – Cabernet – Cariñena. This is usually the vintage order of varieties of Mas Vicenç.

Each of them has its own characteristics and ripen at different speeds. In addition, we must take into account the characteristics of each single vineyard, either in height and slate terrain or in lower slopes in different mountainside. Oh, we must also take into account the humidity-ventilation relationship and, as is obvious, the weather forecast for future days.

Hey! Inside the cellar the first fermentations go at full speed! These are days of high concentration and much decision-making. We need to have the five senses on stage to make every year the best possible wines.

We already have the new vintages from the harvest 2018

In Mas Vicenç winery we have recently bottled the new vintages of the young white wine El Terrat, the rosé wine Flors i Violes and the sweet wine Vi del Vent. All three wines come from this last harvest and its freshness in mouth and aromas are fantastic now!

In addition, we also have available the vintage 2016 of our oak aged red wine Nit de Lluna so we start the year with great novelties.

An unforgettable year

Chocolates and wines, last edition of the year

Next Sunday 4th of November we organize the latest edition of the year of the activity ‘Chocolate and life’. This experience of union between the best handmade chocolate and wines is always organized on the first Sundays of the months of March, May, September and November.

The objective is to bring the world of blending to the people in a very original way. First of all, the pastry chef Roger Vallvé from Ca les Taronges of Valls prepares five pieces of chocolate with different ingredients and percentages of cocoa.

With them, we select which wine of Mas Vicenç is the most appropriate for each one. The result always ends up being surprising and entertaining!

An optimal fruit

The harvest of this year is generally very good. The vineyards have been benefited from higher registers in rainfall during the year and this has been reflected in a significant increase in the amount of grapes.

However, the task of prevention of diseases in the vineyard has had to be very rigorous. Today, 25th of September, and with the 60% of the harvest surpassed, the health state of the fruit has been excellent and surely the wines will know how to reflect!
